Michele Tafoya grew up in SoCal, where she attended high school in the affluent surfer ‘burbs of Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach. She then went to college at Cal-Berkeley followed by business school at USC. Her first media job was in Charlotte, North Carolina. It’s hard to tell from Wikipedia and other online sources at what point Minnesota became home (or maybe it would be more apt to say “center of operations”). Maybe her husband is from here? Anyway, she isn’t, and now that she’s a candidate for the entry level political job of US senator, she’s committed a few gaffes that are the source of a meme relating to her ignorance of local cultural byways. I’ve spent the morning reading through a page where individual specimens are collected, and a lot of them are laugh-out-loud funny. At least, I laughed out loud. Here are some of my favorites. It seems vaguely apt that almost no one knows how to spell her name so I’m going to preserve the misspelling.
